Salute to Service
The Friday before Memorial Day is officially recognized as National Poppy Day in the U.S.
The poppy flower symbolizes both remembrance for fallen soldiers and active support for living veterans. It represents the blood shed in battle and serves as a visual pledge that the sacrifices of our United States military service members will never be forgotten.
Veterans' associations distribute these flowers in exchange for charitable donations. These funds provide direct financial and medical assistance to veterans and their families. Often, the artificial poppies are handmade by disabled and hospitalized veterans themselves as a form of therapeutic rehabilitation.
All this coming week leading up to Memorial Day weekend we will be collecting $1 donations in exchange for a poppy flower. Proceeds will go to benefit local veterans' organizations.
Thank you again for your support of Glendora Elementary School and our belief in being good citizens and helping local charities.
