School Attendance Infographic

410 Chews Cheetahs had perfect attendance for the month of September! Students with good attendance are more successful as the years progress. When children are absent from school, they miss out on consistent instruction that is needed to develop basic skills. Children in early grades are particularly susceptible to falling behind in fundamental reading skills, which can have a snowball effect that impacts future learning (American University, 2021).

While we realize some absences are unavoidable, The NJ Department of Education,  Department of Health, and CDC recommend  keeping a child home from school only if they:

  • Have a fever

    • Children should be fever free for 24 hours without medication before going back to school

  • Have vomited in the past 12 hours

  • Have had diarrhea two or more times in the past 24 hours

  • Are sweaty (when the weather is not hot)

  • Have pain in ears, throat, head or chest

  • Seem too ill to comfortably participate in school activities
