School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing. Registered professional nurses utilize their clinical knowledge and judgment and provide health care to students and staff, perform health screenings and assessments and coordinate referrals to healthcare providers. The school nurse addresses the physical, mental, emotional, and social health needs of students to support student success. The school nurse serves as a liaison between school personnel, family, community and healthcare resources to advocate for health care and a healthy school environment.
