Dear Parents/Guardians,
My name is Kathy Goggin and I am the school counselor at Blackwood
Elementary School. I work with students individually, in small groups, and/or in their classroom.
For classroom-based counseling, teachers can request lessons based on what he/she thinks the students need most. Common topics include: respect, fairness, making and keeping friends, positive school behaviors, tattling vs. telling, and bullying.
For small group counseling, permission form is sent home that lets parents know what the topic is, what will be covered, and the goals of the group. Parents have the option of allowing their child to participate or declining the invitation to the small group. Topics include social skills, grief, friendship, anger management, anxiety, divorce, etc.
To receive individual counseling, a student is referred by their parent, teacher, or principal. Students can also request to see me. Students come to my office to talk about things that impact their learning at school, such as friendships, bullying, anger, anxiety, self-esteem, etc. In my office, students can feel free to talk about what worries them and to ask questions. The School Counselor keeps information confidential unless disclosure is required and will inform parents and/or appropriate authorities when the student’s condition indicates: Harm to Self, Harm to Others, or Harm from Others.
I would like to continue being a resource for your child throughout the school year. My goal is to help your child be successful both academically and socially through group, individual, or classroom lessons.

Hello my name is Tammy Dash and I am the new kid on the block here at Blackwood Elementary School. I am the School Social Worker in addition to the Mrs. Goggin's who counsels our kiddos. I’m present in the school on Mondays and Wednesdays and available via remote as well.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 22 years of experience supporting children of various ages. I am available to provide individual and group counseling services as well as crisis management if needed during school hours as well as provide information for community services, such as therapeutic programs, partial care programs, and therapist in the area who may be able to assist further.
