Technology
At the Department of Instruction, we look to implement new technologies into the classroom environment to both engage students and increase teaching and learning. Following up on a successful 2007-08 school year, we are excited to bring more great technologies to the classroom. The student response systems have been an overwhelming success in our 5th grades as well as 6th grade math classes. The expansion of those systems is on the horizon for the 2008-09 school year. We are also on the verge of introducing interactive whiteboard technology into our classrooms and this year will be a crucial year as that technology begins to be sprinkled into classrooms.
Realtime, our student information system, made a big splash in our schools last year as we move towards building one digital warehouse of all district data. In the 2007-08 school year, parents and students saw new report cards which were generated from our new system. In the 2008-09 school year, the introduction of the Gloucester Township Parent Portal will give students and parents an unprecedented look into the current grades and homework assignments of students in their classes. We hope this will increase the communication between school and home and help our students to learn more in their classes.
