Message from the
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction

petruzellipic

It is easy to say “all children can learn”. It is another thing to make it part of the culture of a school district and make it visible in every activity, every day. The Gloucester Township School District’s Department of Instruction is committed to providing research-based programs, delivered by fully trained, consistently supported professional educators, and supported by the best materials. We are further committed to reach and stay “on the cutting edge” of educational technology and academic research to ensure that our students have the best opportunities for success in their future.
Initiatives
In the Spring of 2006, we asked ourselves a simple question. What would it take to be a truly “great” district? Over time, that discussion led to the conclusion not only of what it would take to be truly great, but how we would get there. Our plan was to ensure that any ideas were thoroughly researched – we would focus on “best practices”. Practices that were supported by the research would be piloted in some classrooms. As pilots became programs across the district, we would ensure thorough, sustained professional development for the teaching staff to ensure maximum benefit of the program. These pilots and programs became a collection that we refer to as our “initiatives”. This is a brief description of each initiative. There may be more information on an individual initiative in the corresponding subject area sections of this website.
