American Education Week was instituted by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1921 as an effort to raise public awareness of the importance of education. For more information, visit the NEA website.
January 17, 2011
"We must work unceasingly to uplift this nation that we love to a higher destiny, to a higher plateau of compassion, to a more noble expression of humanness."
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
In the fall of 2006, the Gloucester Township School District established the MLK Service Committee. The mission of this committee is to promote district-wide community service and to recognize exemplary students and community members who embody the ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Each year, since 2007, we have honored one student from each of our 11 schools, along with community recipients, who serve as champions of justice, humanity and service in the community.
Read Across America Day
A Celebration of Reading

This beloved children’s author’s use of rhyme makes his books an effective tool for teaching young children the basic skills they need to be successful readers. This year, again, in cities and towns across the nation, teachers, librarians, parents, politicians, and community members from all walks of life will participate in activities focused on bringing reading excitement to children of all ages. For ideas on how to celebrate this annual NEA event, visit www.nea.org/readacross/.
